Impostor Syndrome: Maybe I'm Not Good Enough?
After more than 9 years working with Laravel, leading a dev team and architecting solutions, I still sometimes feel like I’m not doing enough.
It isn’t the technical side that worries me. I’m confident I can solve problems, build scalable apps and ship clean code. It’s that I often feel like I’m falling behind.
The tech world moves fast, and with new tools, frameworks and “must-know” trends appearing constantly, it’s easy to feel like you’re not keeping up. Add two kids and limited time, and that creeping feeling starts to grow even when you know, deep down, that you’ve built a solid career.
Quite often I catch myself thinking, “Maybe I’m not good enough.”
The truth is I haven’t had the time to learn or try the things I want to.
- Expand my toolkit with skills like React and Go.
- My AWS certification study? On hold.
- That side product idea I’ve been carrying for years? Still on the shelf.
- And marketing myself, being visible in the Laravel community, has always taken a backseat.
That is what impostor syndrome actually is: believing you’re a fraud when you’ve already proven otherwise.
Balancing work, family and life means priorities shift, and shifting priorities don’t make your skills any less real. Remembering that helps me see that small steps still count. One tweet, one blog post, one honest conversation.
If you’ve felt the same way, I’d like to hear how you deal with it.
